Taking care of your cat stockings

Picture this: you’re about to leave your house to go to the office, to have a very important dinner, or you’re just going out to meet with bae….and, bam! You realize your favorite cat pantyhose is torn. This is one of the typical problems women face when it comes to wearing tights and owning cats.

To prevent this from happening to you, we have developed a guide to teach you how to take better care of your favorite cat stockings and prevent future incidents.

1.

Learn this acronym: DEN. This is the abbreviation for deniers, a measure that establishes the thickness of the thread of the stocking. The fewer the number, the thinner and more transparent the average (15, 20, 40…). From 60 den onwards the stockings are thicker, opaque and resistant.

2.

Duration and good condition. These two variables have a lot to do with misuse. You may not put your pantyhose on correctly. Try to do it without pulling, gently, without wearing rings or watches. Once they are in place, be careful with tables and chairs because they tend to get caught in them.

3.

Stay away from Mr. Whiskers. Avoid playing with your cat while you have your pantyhose on, everyone knows those claws can cause serious damage to your cat tights.

4.

Hand washing. Stockings up to 40 den are the most delicate. It is best to wash them by hand with a mild detergent. Experts advise that the water should not be too hot, as it could ruin the elasticity of the meshes. They should not be twisted or rubbed too much.

5.

Some can go to the washing machine. For stockings of 40 den and above, almost all the washing machines on the market have a special cycle for this type of delicate garment, with soft spin. If they are 100% polyester/nylon there is no problem in washing them in the washing machine, in a washing bag, in a setting for delicate clothes, with cold water and very little softening. The softener is the biggest enemy of elastic and synthetic fibers.

6.

How to dry them. Your cat tights should be kept far, far away from the dryer or any other direct heat source. Experts explain that Lycra or elastane is rubber, which is deformed by direct heat. As an exception we could dry them on the radiator, but always on a towel. We can also lay them, but we always have to eliminate the excess of moisture first and thus prevent water from deforming them. If you stretch them out, try not to put any tweezers on them, to avoid marks or deformations.

7.

Always read the packaging. On all packaging, the manufacturer’s recommendations for washing, drying and preservation are explained. Then you decide whether to follow them or not.

8.

How to store them. The important thing when storing them is to avoid rubbing or snagging them with other garments that contain velcro, zippers, beading, sequins or hooks that could damage them, manufacturers advise. They also recommend not to store them in bags, to prevent them from sweating, and to fold them as they are sold, in a maximum of 3 or 4 folds, especially the thinnest stockings.

9.

What to do if my stockings are torn?

When this happens, sooner or later you’ll have to get rid of them. However, the emergency nail polish solution has worked for decades, but if you have holes then it’s time to say goodbye and buy new tights.

10.

How long can I expect my kitty pantyhose to last? It depends on the type of material, of course, on its thickness (the thinner ones last less time) and on the use made of them. The resistance varies, but some manufacturers dare to calculate that, based on quality averages, the thin ones have a half-life of 10 postures, the intermediate ones (20den) of 20 postures and the ones from 60den onwards will of course last longer.

We know how much you love your Kitty stockings and we want you to take care of them as you take care of Mr. Whiskers so that they can be with you for a really long time!
